About Sonia

Sonia Bellugi, hailing from Florence, Italy, comes from both a city and a family steeped in a rich musical tradition. She earned a baccalaureate in Jazz and Musical Improvisation before graduating from the Conservatory of Paris with a further baccalaureate in Opera, both with magna cum laude.

She debuted as a soprano soloist at the Opéra Bastille in the contemporary opera Le Chat Perche, which she performed in an Ensemble 2E2M production that toured France with over 60 performances. She has since performed many varying roles, including Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, at the Tiroler Festspiele and at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Gilda in Rigoletto for an extensive tour with the Opera2001 company, and Elena in Il cappello di paglia di Firenze in Pisa and Livorno. Most recently, she performed the role of Miss Jessel in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw.

She is fluent in Italian English French and German, and in recent years has been dedicating herself to teaching young aspiring singers. A certified Yoga teacher, she uses her knowledge to help further awareness of the breath and its connection to the body, fundamental for such an instrument as singing. She taught with LMFL in Florence in 2023.
