Teaches English

About Alan

Having gained a degree in Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Cambridge, I obtained my teaching qualification (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) at the Institute of Education in London with a specialization in the teaching of English as a foreign language. Since then, I have taught English in North and West Africa, where I set up the English Department of the new Federal University of Cameroun, and trained teachers of English in Singapore.

I then studied for a Ph.D. in the evaluation and testing of English Language Proficiency at the University of Edinburgh. Subsequently, I worked in India, and in the London, Kuala Lumpur, and New Delhi offices of the British Council. On my return to the UK, I have acted as Chief Examiner for the Edexcel English as a Foreign Language exams, as well as Chief Examiner for the Trinity College London Spoken English exams and teacher training diploma and certificates.

I have been happy and privileged to be the Director of Language for LMFL since its birth and to see the progress made in English and other languages by so many students. I have assumed the duties of Director of LMFL since Arlette’s sad passing in late 2021.
