The railway station nearest to The Hall is Gobowen railway
station (distance from school: 1.4 miles (2.3 km)). It is situated on the
Shrewsbury to Chester Line, and all services are operated by Arriva Trains
Wales. Trains operate approximately hourly between Shrewsbury and Chester,
via Wrexham General. Many trains start from Birmingham New Street, although
some start from Cardiff Central and continue beyond Chester to Holyhead along
the North Wales Coast Line. Gobowen station has neither a taxi rank nor a cab office. Advance booking is essential. For a list of local operators click here Gobowen station serves the
village of Gobowen, three miles from the thriving Shropshire market town of
Oswestry. Named after King Oswald of Northumbria, who died in 641 AD,
Oswestry is steeped in history and his a wide selection of attractions to
visit, both in the town centre and the surrounding countryside. The remains
of Offa's Dyke run just to the west of the town, and can be easily walked
along the well-maintained Offa's Dyke Path. Previously the Dyke separated the
ancient kingdoms of Powis and Mercia, roughly along the modern day border of
Wales and England. Attractions in or near Oswestry town centre include Castle
Bank (the remains of Oswestry's old castle), St Oswald's Well and Oswestry Old
Fort (one mile north of the town centre with commanding views over the
countryside). 1. Train times and station information for Gobowen railway station from National

AccommodationThe course accepts participants whether residential (who board and take all their meals at The Hall for the duration of the course) or non-residential (who live within reach of the school, or who choose to board at a local hotel or B&B but take lunch and supper, as provided, on each day of the course). Local Accommodation There are private houses offering bed and breakfast as well as good hotels in and around Gobowen and Chirk which are the two largest towns close to The Hall. We recommend you consider the Wynnstay Hotel in Oswestry. (http://www.bestwestern.co.uk/Hotels/Best-Western-Wynnstay-Hotel-83637/Hotel-Info/Default.aspx). participants and our tutors. Many of the more spacious bedrooms are suitable
for families who are prepared to live en famille but we can also offer
a limited amount of shared accomodation (if requested and available). The
majority of our participants board in single study bedrooms, many with
ensuite facilities. |
