BIBF   DOUBLE BASS WORKSHOP   11th –13th  August 2008

 

 

 

 A three day BIBF Double Bass Workshop will be held at Moreton Hall (Oswestry, Shrops) from 11-13 August, as part of the 2008 LMFL International Summer School.

 

The workshop, tutored by David Heyes, will include technique sessions, chamber music, bass orchestra, master classes, individual lessons and performance opportunities. BIBF workshops are known for their informality, flexibility of approach, and the opportunity to study and learn new repertoire in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

 

The workshop is open to bassists of all ages and abilities (from the age of 14 years), residential or non-residential, and a few places are available for younger players by agreement. Please contact BIBF office for more details.

 The workshop will begin at 11.00am on Monday 11 August and end at 6.00pm on Wednesday 13 August, after a final concert to which family and friends are welcome. Students registered in the two-week course will participate as well.

Fees include all meals and tuition.

DAVID HEYES studied at the Royal College of Music (London) and in Prague with Frantisek Posta (Principal Bass, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra). He is much in demand as a soloist and teacher and has performed in 11 countries over the past five years.

He has been a juror at a number of international double bass competitions and has been appointed Jury Chairman for the 2008 Brno Double Bass Competition (Janacek Academy of Music).

He received a prestigious award from the David Walter Trust of New York for his pioneering work as a soloist, teacher, publisher and commissioner of new music, and since 1990 over 280 works have been written for him.

David was recently a Visiting-Professor at Beijing Conservatoire and future recitals and masterclasses include invitations to Czech Republic, Norway (Norwegian Academy of Music), Malaysia and Denmark.
