Andrea Pani

Viola master class

Andrea Pani was born in Cagliari (Sardinia) where he studied viola at the Conservatoire P. da Palestrina, graduating in 1982

He moved to Florence where he continued his studies with Mazumi Tanamura, principal viola of the Saito Kinen and the Mito Orchestra. 

He later studied viola and quartet with Piero Farulli (Quartetto Italiano) and the Borodin Quartet at the Fiesole Scuola di Musica and at the Accademy Chigiana in Sienna where he also followed master classes in viola with Yuri Bashmet.

He participated in the first International Master class in Quartet with P. Borciani (Quartetto Italiano). 

He has played principal viola with the Solisti Fiorentini, the Ottetto Italiano, the Cameristi Toscani and the Musici Mundi. 

He holds master classes in Italia and in the rest of Europe.
Winner of the viola competition for assistant principal viola, he has been a member of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino since 1982, touring all over the world with some of the most important contemporary conductors, such as Zubin Mehta (Principal conductor), Kleiber, Osawa, Muti,Giulini, Sawallisch, Abbado, Solti, Chung e Pretre.

He is the Artistic Director of the Estate Montespertolese, the classical music festival in Tuscany.

He has been teaching on the course since 2002.
